Britney Spears has broken her silence two days after police were called to her home for a wellness check by concerned fans. In a statement Thursday, the 41-year-old singer pleaded with fans and the media to respect her privacy.
“I love and adore my fans, but this time things have gone a bit too far and my privacy has been invaded,” Spears wrote, claiming police responded to “outlandish phone calls.”
“The police never entered my house and when they got to my door they quickly realized there was no problem and left immediately,” the pop star continued. “I felt like I was gassed and bullied once the incident made the headlines and again portrayed in a poor and unfair light by the media. During this time in my life, I truly hope that the public and my fans that I care so much can respect my privacy in the future. All my love, B.”
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office visited Spears’ home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., on Tuesday night amid apparent concerns for her safety. Concern among her loyal followers emerged after the “Toxic” singer’s Instagram account disappeared. Before deactivating her account, Spears allegedly said in a now-deleted post, “I changed my name to River Red.” Some people thought it was a code word for help.
Spears’ Instagram has been worrying some for the past few weeks. The social media posts coincided with a report from TMZ claiming the entertainer had acted erratically at a restaurant. The gossip site posted a video claiming that Spears was talking gibberish and that her husband, Sam Asghari, stormed out. Asghari has strongly denied any “manic episode” to TMZ. A restaurant employee also allegedly told a fan that the report was inaccurate.
Spears was released from her conservatorship in 2021 after claiming she was suffering from conservatorship abuse. The singer’s fans were instrumental in orchestrating the #FreeBritney movement which captured worldwide attention amid her battle with father Jamie Spears.
