A critically acclaimed game that first released on PlayStation 4 in 2017 has now received a free next-gen upgrade for PlayStation 5. Since the launch of the PS5 over two years ago, the developers of the around the world have slowly released updates to improve their games for the upgraded hardware offered by PlayStation’s latest console. And while this latest title to receive a native PS5 update might be unexpected, it’s still welcome.

As of this week, the publisher Finji announced that night in the woods received a new patch to make it work natively on PS5. Developed by Infinite Fall, night in the woods is a story-driven adventure game that was originally part of a Kickstarter campaign. After its launch in early 2017, the game was widely acclaimed. Currently, it has an impressive aggregate score of 87/100 on Metacritic, making it one of the highest rated titles on PS4 for the year of release.

As for what this next-gen upgrade provides for night in the woods, Finji said he will now allow the game to run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on PS5. Although night in the woods isn’t a title that requires a high level of performance to be enjoyed, it’s still cool to see that Finji released this update so long after the title originally arrived on PS4.
